Serv We can! Portfolio Costs

 custom software
Does anyone still write custom software? Actually, this option has come full circle because the current tools make development fast and affordable. Why buy a monstrous application with a large capital investment when you can have a custom built application for less money, and it does exactly what you want?

How does it work?

A typical Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), as it is practiced in mature software-development organizations, has the following activities:

  • identification of business needs and constraints
  • elicitation and collection of requirements
  • architecture design
  • detailed design
  • development
  • testing
  • deployment
  • maintenance

The size and nature of the project determine the depth with which each task are undertaken, but usually we do at least some work within each step.

During development, we do like to approach the project in an iterative fashion, especially for larger projects. This means that we develop to the point where we have a soft demo, and then walk the business owners through it to make sure it holds to their initial vision. The application then builds incrementally. Far too often, the vision changes or the business analysis was faulty and there is a disconnet between vision and end product. This approach always keeps us on the right path.
